Are You Prepared To Weather The Storm?
Storms cause severe property and infrastructure damage due to high winds, lightning, hailstones, extensive rainfall and flash flooding. In the last 18 months, storms have caused over 2.1 billon dollars worth of damage in Victoria including the March 2010 hailstorms that cost over $1 billion in insurance claims alone. Storms can also lead to extensive power outages. Experience shows that well prepared people respond to and recover better after emergencies than those who do not.
Victoria in Flood
After ten years of drought, record-breaking rains, in January 2011, brought significant floods to the state of Victoria. This video captures some of the impact on affected communities and documents the efforts of the State Emergency Service in working with those communities to save people, livestock and property from the rising water.
