SES volunteers require regular and comprehensive training to maintain high levels of skills proficiency and safety. Consequently, training is an ongoing commitment, and all certificate training is Nationally Accredited and at no financial cost to volunteers.
The whole journey starts when you express an interest to attend an Information Evening, which are held on six Wednesday evenings each year. During this get together you are given general information about how our Service operates, and the expected levels of commitment required by Volunteers. We urge you to take some time to play the link on our
"Services" tab, and gain a better knowledge of the VICSES Authority operations.
Then, after the application forms and Police checks are approved, you will be invited to attend one of our two Induction Training Courses held each year. They are held on a Tuesday evening for about three hours each session, and continue for the entire three months of your probationary period.
Upon successful completion of the Induction Course, you will then be required to attend regular Monday night training with all the other Unit volunteers. This training is ongoing and comprehensive. You will be allocated to a Rescue Crew, and be expected to attend weekly training, callouts, and assist at community education events.
Compulsory training in the first twelve months includes General Rescue certification, first aid level 2, and OH&S level 2.
Further training proficiencies can be gained in roof top safety, chainsaw operations, Land search, and many, many more.
SES volunteer membership is not for the time poor!
It is a lifestyle choice which requires a supportive and tolerant family environment, an informed employer, and long term stability at your home location.
SES volunteering is a huge commitment, so give it lots of thought before you contemplate becoming a volunteer and joining us.
